Biography

Quique Domenech has spent more than forty years turning the Puerto Rican cuatro into a lead voice on concert stages, film scores, and orchestral halls far from its folk roots. Born in Santurce, Puerto Rico, he picked up his first cuatro at age six, trained in theory and solfège at the Instituto de Cultura Puertorriqueña, and went on to perform with maestro Francisco López Cruz's Cuatro Orchestra.

A two-time Latin Grammy nominee, he has released more than 35 albums, earning repeated recognition from the Fundación Nacional para la Cultura Popular, and has shared stages and studio time with Carlos Vives, Milly Quezada, Noel Schajris, Margarita “La Diosa de la Cumbia,” Ricky Martin, and more.

In 2016 he co-founded Sonido Tré with Mayda Belén Rivera and Edgar Omar Ríos, becoming the first cuatro player to headline two coliseum concerts in Puerto Rico — including 30 Años: Pa' Mi Gente with the Puerto Rico Philharmonic Orchestra. With the trio he released the first full English-language cuatro album, Listen to the Music, produced by David Foster's musical director, Boh Cooper, and in 2025 became the first cuatro player to record with the Budapest Scoring Orchestra, producing a symphonic version of “Verde Luz.”

Quique Domenech co-founded Sonido Tré alongside vocalists Mayda Belén Rivera and Edgar Ríos. Under that banner the trio became the first cuatro-led group to headline two Puerto Rico coliseum concerts — including 30 Años: Pa' Mi Gente with the Puerto Rico Philharmonic Orchestra at the Coliseo Rubén Rodríguez in Bayamón — and the first to share a stage with the Philharmonic at Chicago's Cuatro Festival.

They went on to release Listen to the Music, the first full English-language cuatro album, produced by David Foster's musical director, Boh Cooper, and in 2025 became the first cuatro-led group to record with the Budapest Scoring Orchestra, producing a symphonic version of “Verde Luz.”
